Its
a season of lady-like sophistication adorned with flirty flourishes,
so let the feminine force be with you!
Long,
lean pants.
Stovepipe pants and narrow, cropped trousers walk the
walk.
The
long and short of it:
from floor-sweeping coats to knee-length pencil skirts
worn with lady-like blouses to short schoolgirl skirts its
up to you.
Classic
coats are back, in every length from cropped leather
bomber jackets, and jackets with fur cuffs and collars, to floor-sweeping
cashmere capes, and oversized overcoats and maxis tied with dainty
sashes and bows. Youll also see peacoats and military-inspired
coats with turned-up collars.
Denim
still rocks, especially
slim, skintight jeans if you can wear them.
Suits
are paired-down, body-fitting
and sophisticated with narrow shoulders, and short and hip-length
jackets often single-breasted and single buttoned, paired with streamlined
pants and pencil skirts in everything from velvet to tweed to corduroy.
Gothic
black satin gowns,
tops and skirts embellished with Edwardian era lace and ruffles.
The
evening news: stay tuned for satiny, opulent 30s-inspired
gowns in sleek black, subdued navy (J.H. recommends black, never
navy too uniform looking), shimmering golds, peachy pinks
and emerald-kingdom green. Gowns and dresses in abstract patterns
also made headlines.
Girlie
garnishes: instantly update your existing wardrobe
by adding flirty touches such as bows, thin belts tied around fitted
jackets, scarves, fur, fringe and lace.
Tie
one on. To buy this
season: a long, chunky knit scarf. Other up-to-the-minute details:
fedoras, knit caps and baseball hats, cross necklaces and geometric
silver earrings.
To
have and to hold: arm yourself with clutches,
slouchy shaped purses and oversized carry-ons.
The
return of the high heel (proceed with caution)
with a new rounded toe. Boots are still kickin but with a
new get-out-my-way attitude. Other sole providers: tie-up stilettos
(not to the office!) and demure flatter heals.
Add
a flash of silver or gold: gold pants, a silver
skirt, worn day or night. Just dont overdo it or youll
look like you just missed your flight to the moon.
